Yelena enjoys experimenting with a range of styles as well as working in different mediums, from oil and acrylic to charcoal, pastel, and pencil. She exhibits her work mainly in Chicago, and has won awards such as the "Best of Show" in May 2001 at the Naperville Art League. She has also shown her work in Los Angeles, Paris, and London, where she won the Penrose Arts Grant for her "innovative, vibrant, and fresh use of colors."
Along with her career as an artist, Yelena has a Masters degree in English Literary Studies: Classic Modern Writing from the University of London, and has taught college writing, composition, and literature courses since 1994. She enjoys teaching and has found her experience most rewarding at the College of DuPage, Lewis University, and the University of St. Francis. Yelena has also been a freelance editor and writer of a novella and two screenplays. Most recently, she compiled her completed collection of poetry to accompany photographs of her paintings for publication.
